It all started Tuesday afternoon, it was naptime and as usual we sat in the rocking chair reading stories, giving hugs and kisses, singing songs then down in the crib for a nap. I went down stairs to start some chores and suddenly I heard the sound of little feet running in the toy room. Hmmm, I thought, Landon and Dayton are at school, Sadie is asleep in the swing and Reece is down for a..........OH NO! Quickly I dashed up the stairs two at a time and there he was playing with his toys in the toy room. I heard a sigh from somewhere in the universe coming from all the mothers that have come before me. They knew as did I what this meant. My two year old has learned to climb out of his crib. I acted quickly snatching him up and immediately putting him back into his crib and in a very "motherly" voice let him know he was not to get out of his crib again...that it was naptime and he needed to rest. I waited outside his door holding my breath, knowing but not wanting to believe, what was coming. Little Reece did not dissapoint and in just a few short minutes there he was peeking out of his door. The blackhole had been opened and it was starting to suck the naptime in. I tried as all mothers do all the usual threats, bribes and pleading as I put him back in his crib several more times. Alas I knew it was just a matter of time before my baby Reece would be too big for naptime so I unwillingly surrendered to the naptime blackhole. I sat down on the floor in a state of defeat when Reece climbed up into my lap, looked up at me with his little face that still had pudding smudges on it from lunch and said, "Mom...(wait for it)....(wait for it)..........I want to go to Home Depot". A smile came across my face and once again all was right in the universe.

Our visit and the big boy bed probably killed naptime for you...sorry. Hey, I still make my 4 year old take naps as much as possible, but I think that is slowly going by the wayside too. At least when he is at daycare he has to take one, not that he always does....but quiet time is okay too!
I had a crib with Ryllie, and never used it again with any of my kids. Isn't that nuts! They sleep with me when they are babies and go straight to a twin with a child lock on their doors. :) Good luck keeping the naptime alive. Love ya!
How cute! Lily did that at 20 months (agh!.. my first kid to climb out of a crib). So, she's been in a toddler bed since. It took about 20 times (of putting her back in bed for naptime) per day for about 3 days for her to get it. But now she goes down for nap without issue and doesn't sneak out. I was SO not ready to give up naps! :) GOOD LUCK!!
no no no! That is my worst fear. Josh has tried a few time, but with no success as of yet. And I loved the home depot comment. For us it would be "COSTCO!"
oh and I wanted to tell you, Rusty has a website he is just trying to launch called www.theblogfrog.com. Go check it out and let us know what you think!
I love the way you can tell a story!
I remember those days with my kids, now that I have a 9 & 12 year old...we are on to TWEEN issues. Joy : )

The day Max learned to climb out of his crib was just about the saddest of my life! Now I put on a tv show and he's out like a light, no fights (I know-bad mommy!- but it works!) I also love the Home Depot comment, for us it would be Target!!!
Oh wow...that is absolutely darling. Home Deeps. I love all your kid's names! So cute.
